abandoned houses in the woods (or seemingly there so), what am I trying to say?  Well…  growing up here in the US northeast there is plenty of mountains, majestic ? not really, but hiking wise ?  pretty damn cool, we have the Appalachian trail and the Catskills not too far, when I went to camp as a wee lad there were these houses built in the woods… like normal houses, think of the original Blair Witch (which scared the crap out of me personally at the time), that stuff exists and is that creepy especially as a kid, totally bombed out houses that look normal on the outside but .. just in the middle of friggin nowhere… that sort of was my inspiration for this (mixed with longing for her)…

house in the woods” 9.5.2018

I left my heart, someplace I forgot

‘it is better this way’,

so they say, so I’m told

I can not raise, the army of my voice

to assemble and rise or even disagree

an abandoned house, with no glass

windows just portals, to let the elements in

the wind, the rain, and cold

the insulation failed, years ago

this is no longer a home, just a shell

but it remains all

all I know now, and all the more.

notes… kind of a nice halloween theme if I don’t say so, but I just did…

On my way to Cape May NJ the other week this was the first thing I wrote… it was on the way, coming over the bridge into Cape May by all the marinas…

Arrival in Cape May, NJ 10.7.2018

the sky is remarkably blue

the veritable not a cloud

gently autumn sun warming

traveling to one of my favored places in this world

(that I have been to)

and with all this

all the while, all this time-past,

I am thinking of you.

As is my purview I like to post some simple thoughts, or even incomplete ones on the weekend, heck, even god rested on the seventh day, can’t I ?

plant a flower, because

a buried bulb, becomes

a light in spring

a germinated seed

will explode, break through earth

paint the landscape

in brush strokes

splashes color

the sky is mud

the rain slides

hurricane rain, drives

rivers swell, rivers wide

flood stage left

rising waters, surging tide

relentless intent

why would I move on

when all my instincts

tell me to hold on

Music … ?  I am going deep into my mind here… something back from college days, Liv from Norway introduced me to them and the Sugar Cubes (hello.. Bjork)

Ride – Vapor Trail

Ride – Seagull

Sort of the Euro version of REM… sort of .. ?  definitely alt, interesting vocals, drum sound, and guitar patterns.

And as always… thank ye, thank ye, thank ye if you read any of this, likes and follows are always cool, if you got a blog you think I should read, leave a comment (I rarely check my email, I’m bad with that).

9.28.2018 “september sunset”

clouds, breakers

rolling across the ethereal setting sky

the gentle palm of the sun descends

a bathing basin of light

suspended womb, cradle of life

a pause, a stop, a moment, a memory,

a photo, shared.

comets or plane trails trail

like linen strands across the blue

wisps of nimbus interwoven

eight cross corset laces

climbing up the horizon

in the distance – mountains

the sun has ducked behind

out of quick sight

with tell tale tip toes of light

snitches tattle to the approaching night

street lights turn on, in anticipation

if this is existence

in a moment –

I wish to be here.

Since I am going to go see him Sunday night in NYC here is some Eric Johnson with content appropriate music…

Eric Johnson – When the Sun Meets the Sky (live)

I wanted to post a live track to show how damn gifted he is as a player.  He is all I strive for on guitar (and I am not nearly on the same planet as him playing wise), I like to pick around and not play chords… and at that he is just amazing, listen to all the notes he plays just flawlessly, he can be flashy but he has heart…. damn I am practically vibrating in place awaiting this show sunday night @ sony hall in NYC.  Stop by and say hey if you are in the area at the show (I’m much funnier in person), I have VIP tickets, not that I am one (a VIP that is) but I can afford them, not sure how the venue handles all that, it will be my first time there.  as always thanks if you got this far or read any of my rabble, thanks.

the warming glow of the autumn sun

the never ending energy

at least

on these, our granted eyes

this captured time

all that I can compare

the limits of which I know

and there

the sun, timeless in our time

will expand out into the cold

Notes: I am referencing this post a little, but also I think often of the scale of time and how we find such ‘importance’ in things which are just pebbles in a stream, I am not saying throw it all away but perspective is a curious friend to have informed/interesting conversations with, I am being poetic and scientific, it is an odd pairing to be sure, but that is me, that is my mix, I am floral biological chemistry in motion, or at least that is my best analogy for this whole thing, the sun is more than just some ball, it is a star, this huge engine of massive energy pulsing out light (and more) every single moment of every day for billions of years, almost hard to wrap your noggin around, but I am fascinated by it, as our ancestors were, how far removed from them are we ?  silly, not much, even though we think we are so advanced, we are all still stuck here on this one planet, in one system, in one galaxy, it is quite humbling… and then you can get into multi-verses, dimensions, what was before the universe before the universe (something had to exist didn’t it ? there is a beginning of everything.. isn’t there?)… it is exhausting, but why not postulate and probe and try, to reach, the stars, and all, because this, is all, we know.

music… I’ll post one of my fave bands (as usual)

Voivod – Moonbeam Rider

Spacey and airy… Piggy (RIP) was such a unique player, just a damn one of a kind band all around, I love how this song is like space thrash with awesome bass. I wanted to post some At The Drive In as that is what I was jamming to on the traffic home tonight but oh well… there is always next time…

Any and all thoughts/comments (suggestions ?) are appreciated… or ignored, depends on my mood… (kidding ! sheesh !)

I do not want to admit, the reality

you have residence, in my consciousness

I have not met with such happiness, ever since

I tried to turn the lights out

cut the power lines

eviction in the place of conviction

I want to be all you ever know

to live up to being the one you loved

but now I am but a shrinking star

lost, somewhere, on your horizon

notes… sometimes I just write things that hurt me to the core, because truth can be brutal, but it is truth, I may hate it, I may hate myself for my own self, for losing her, it is easy to look back, it is not easy to not regret the fact.

Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Park…

Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Park…

Sometimes something is right under your nose, and you take it for granted (even though it is granite), this site is literally within walking… er, I doubt I would walk that far, um, a 5 minute hop in the ole automobile thing from my abode, in past years (my youth, where did that go?) this site was in disrepair, and frankly quite sad, given the man (Thomas Alva Edison), enlightened us (quite literally), although his greatest invention is probably the phonograph (he bought the patent (rights) to the light bulb and made the real first working one, it wasn’t really his idea totally – initially), so with all my incessant babbling I am trying to say the Edison Memorial tower is right here in my home town of (drum roll) Edison! (New Jersey), I surely think locals treat this place like the Mt Rushmore of nowheresville but it is significant history right here in our backyard (quite literally, it is off a semi main road tucked into a neighborhood where Edison had a house).  I shot some video also of the site if you would like a virtual tour (which got interrupted by some of the local urban deer, I thought they might jump me, they looked tougher than venison usually is), luckily I escaped with my life from these rapscallions…

Hot Stuff baby tonight…

Hot Stuff baby tonight…

Well, my brother (hey Greg) dropped me off a bundle of goodness, an absolutely mind (and tongue) numbing array of hot peppers, a veritable smorgasbord of chile pepper  goodness all grown local…

Pic 1 is the bundle… oh man, I love hot peppers, totally my jam, pic 2? datil peppers or maybe some chinese habaneros (either way balls hot on the scoville scale), pic 3? looks like jamaican habaneros… not 100% sure on that, pic 4?  woah boy… I know those, I used to have a coworker from Trinidad and he would bring me these back (illegally) and ‘saus’ (which was a very vinegary mixture of these peppers and onions in questionable jars… almost clear-ish with the bodies of the peppers evident within like skeletons), those are the mighty Trinidad Scorpion pepper (so named because they have a stinger like tail thing at their base… and man alive they are hot, they once were considered the hottest pepper on the planet, I have tried these raw and I do not recommend it, they are friggin brutal (all heat not much flavor), they can be tamed (somewhat) by cooking them into sauce but be careful!  pic 5? easy, thai chiles,  not to downplay them at all, they pack a wallop for their size, tons of seeds which means tons of capsaicin, these are wonderful dried and used later, pic 6 ?  ahhh… personally my favorite of all the hot chiles, orange habaneros… they have a fruity tone (once you get past the intense heat) , I love these, they are to me the best hot pepper there is, I think they have fantastic flavor from nose to tongue while delivering incinerating chile heat, pic 7 ?  I think these are Rocoto peppers… not sure, but they were way larger than the other ones and resembled bell peppers which is why I think they are Rocotos (and they are relatively mild).

So… what to do with all this fiery goodness? Make hot sauce silly!  There is all sorts of sauce recipes on this internet thing… so, being the self indulgent chef I am I winged it based on some basic research…. you need a base, some tomato paste (or carrot puree if you want to go that way or maybe mango or pineapple), add some apple cider vinegar to thin it out (about half of the tomato paste volume), bring it to a roil (not a boil) and then add your chopped chiles (with seeds if you are like me), add water as you simmer it down (over about 30 min), the thickness will talk you into what you need to do, taste it as you go, add some garlic, personally I added some alder wood smoked salt for boss taste, I also added some fresh herbs (oregano bunch), I cooked it all down, let it cool… and then pureed it… and man oh man… I have a delicious XXX sauce on my hand to add to whatever for the next few months, and all it takes is a spoonful of it.

One of the best sites I have found about hot peppers is THIS ONE…. sorry to yell, but man, I love the peppers, and that site covers most of them, it is impossible to keep up these days, but I have had most of those peppers, a local awesome vendor (one of my accounts actually) carries a great array of fresh peppers (even ghost on occasion !).  Thoughts and recipes or links or whatever are appreciated ! thanks! (and does anyone get the Donna Summers reference in my title line.. sheesh…)

The miraculous frailty of this little planet…

The miraculous frailty of this little planet…

I think a good deal about the universe and our (OK, mine) place in it, the factors involved in how the Earth exists (and us by extension) are mind numbing, how we are exactly where we need to be in the solar system (distance from the sun), how our moon is so perfectly aligned that we have full eclipses (no other planet has this exactly, even though other planets have tons of moons, especially in the outer solar system), how our magnetic field has shielded us from the solar wind, how our gravity was able to hold in water (the ocean), I could go on and on…  but lately I have been watching a great show “wonders of the solar system” and came upon some animation of all the rogue junk (mostly asteroids/meteorites that are literally flying past us in the inner solar system)…. check it out, and remember that the next time you get pissed about something silly….

All the Asteroids (and flotsam) flowing through the inner solar system

Jupiter, being the biggest planet, is the biggest culprit, it interacts with the asteroid belt and throws rocks at us, it deflects some as well… and frankly without the Yucatan collision would we be ruling the planet ??

anyway, as I thought about this I also wrote a poem, because that is what I do, I grab my brush and stroke…

I try to weigh the volume, of my space

in the universe

and I feel infinitesimally small

not even a grain of silicon

am I a part, at least a cog

am I a molecule in the body of god?

notes: as usual, written in my car on the way home tonight, I had to keep muttering it to myself until I reached a good place to pull over and write it down in my horrible hand writing… I so often fear I will stop writing, but honestly I am a fountain lately (since April), so .. I have ton of stuff to post, not sure where to start but the new and shiny just seems…. so new and shiny… thoughts ?

some lasting thoughts…

some lasting thoughts…

going through my notes of hiking (well, on a beach mind you) through Cape May wildlife parks, I was inspired here and there, mostly I was inspired visually as all my previous posts last week show, so… that should spark my words, or actually maybe humble them, at times I was thinking how could I possibly compare my words to the palette displayed before me by nature, but you come to the performance with what you have, and do it.

10.13.18

I would give all of this for you

for a moment

but that is not exactly the truth

I want a moment

to last until my dying years

’till my eyes wash with forever

the lasting ember, your face

all I wish to remember

notes… strange that this is what pops in my head on a lovely beach, but of course, when you walk alone for as long as I have, your mind starts to wander, in my case to her, I carry her in my mind with me everywhere, not always, but sometimes I just feel like she is there and I can talk to her like she can hear me, of course that is nuts, but that is my inner dialogue, and I can admit that, maybe I am just different than everyone, I don’t know, I can only be me, and can only be honest about my thoughts, I doubt I am alone with the way I think, but sometimes it feels like it because people do not like to share their weaknesses.  But at the end we all meet the same fate, I am trying to live my life that way, am I succeeding ?  nah… but I am working toward it.
