Orphans…

Orphans…

My “process” is pretty much one and done, it is just what I do, how I write.  So, as much as I would like to think (or promise myself internally) that I will get back to these.. I probably won’t (if I am honest about it).. so here are just some lines I scribbled, sort of orphans of mine.  Maybe it will inspire out there in the wordpress-verse some other mind.

tales of wonder

no, tales of horror

buried in fathoms

depths below

*this was specifically written thinking about the Andrea Gail (the boat from “the perfect storm“), in my head I want to write an epic poem about that, I am fascinated by the sea.. but I guess not enough !

I started counting

the pattern on the guardrails

three, one, three, one

some would see four

music?  I play guitar (well, I aim to be better at it…) one of my faves is Eric Johnson, here he is live “Song for George“, just a man and his acoustic guitar.. so damn pure.. and so damn good.

Friday Night Follies…

I am a wordsmith, truly my trade, a pen is my hammer, paper is my forge, I love to play with language in any form, so another week has passed and as is my habit with sharing my refrains, time for some lighter things, I am feeling a strain of Twain, I say that not to boast but with deference and irreverence to old man Clemens, so enjoy, these are just for pun, go out into the world and blow her a kiss, she deserves it…

I call this series animal crackers… and as usual I wrote these all at the same time, enjoy my cornball goofball sideswipes (hopefully, I don’t know, you tell me)

rats have long tales
but do not write books

the possum was the life of the party
until he passed out

fish are quite mischievous
they always skinny dip

song birds fill the air with music
but don’t take them to a Karaoke bar

worms, like children
sometimes eat dirt

amphibious scenery
newt beach

triceratops did not spin

killer whales
only have black tie affairs
although penguins are invited
pandas, skunks and zebras
all feel slighted

snakes? complainers
constant belly aches
and scrapes

a kangaroo’s preferred drink?
served on the rocks
hop scotch

a dog stops and stares
dramatic paws
the same dog joined the navy
and became a sub woofer

a lion’s residence ?
main street

snails love westerns
“happy trails”

an elephant’s car
has two trunks

the octopus
has eight cats

the starfish
is surprisingly dim

bats tend to hang out
to all hours
but they make great air traffic controllers

Musical selection ?  Let’s go amusing… to assimilate the mood, a little strange funk to accommodate the junk I thunk above…  Mr. Bungle “Squeeze Me Macaroni”… a band fronted by Michael Patton (Faith No More, a damn interesting guy) mixing funk, metal.. and well just about everything.  oh, and please tell me you get why I linked bats to air traffic control.. hello out there? is anybody out there? (pink floyd) damn, sometimes I feel like the Dennis Miller of blogs with my references…

whimsy.  I have two whole days off (a rarity) so I will be out and about here in New Jersey digging for fossils… yes, you can do that here.  One of the best kept secrets of NJ (ahem, besides myself) is Big Brook Park.  You are allowed to just hop in and dig (so I do). But anyway here is a silly little thing I threw together the other day while looking at my stat page (as most of us surely do here on wordpress).  Surely this is an inside joke for wordpress folks only… so, find art wherever you may roam (or blog).

Bourbon…

A truly American spirit.  I wanted to lighten the mood a bit today (lovely day in the northeast USA). So here is some amusing musings on Bourbon.  Why?  I recently scoped out a cool documentary about the drink: “Neat: The Story of Bourbon“.  Like a good documentary should you wind up having a good time and learning a thing or two.  So with that in mind here are some booze inspired numbers for your consumption (and mental inebriation). Live life, love life people.

Bourbon
makes great friends
but a poor alarm clock

6.8.18
Bourbon
straight and neat
and the while later
crooked crossed feet

6.8.18
Bourbon
screams and kicks
fiery
and down the hatch
time plays
one eye opens
who is this person in my bed?

6.8.18
Bourbon
straight and slick
burns the tongue
for only quick
tap on the shoulder
from you know who
temptation bout reach for more
but one more knock
you’re on the floor

Musical choice? OK… I’m going to be obvious here… “George Thorogood – One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (Live)

Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated (unless I am in a foul mood… then all bets are off)

As I am known to do sometimes I like to play the poetic fool.  Poems and words that are a bit lighter than my usual fare.  All doom and despair would make david a dull dull boy.

OK, so this has nothing to do with the usual pulse of my blog but I felt compelled to post due to the yoke of circumstance put upon me.  Logging into the wordpress main page I was struck with the following suggestions:

“Suggestions: Hiking, Vegan, Monkeys. ”

Well.. that my friends should be a story in itself (please write your own on one of those long read posts…). Hey, have you heard the one about the vegan monkeys that were hiking?  Three vegan monkeys walked into a royal bar… one said “hi king”.   I could probably bore you with a few more (it is tempting) but perhaps I should get back to the task on hand… poetry (I had to wind up there eventually as is my charge).  So in light of the good humor (no, not the ice cream) I tried to pull one of my sillier more whimsical poems of late… maybe I will put on my serious pants later or my depressed retro glasses but for now…

Dear Sir Goose

crossing the road

with your canadian youth

your plates may say ontario

but central new jersey is your residence,

on lawns, office parks and ponds

might I pet a gosling?

might you quite disagree and peck

Sir Goose,

can I recompense

so bitter fierce to run afoul

might I need a cut-out coyote

to shield my shins

so pass on by brood in tow

‘cross the road

to brighter meadows

Musical machination of the minute: Boa “Duvet”

Of course Anime nerds should recognize this as the theme song for the quite excellent series Lain : Serial Experiments from a number of years ago… awesome tune, and one of my all time fave anime series as well.  So not only do you get a poem, you get my musical opinions… sort of like the blog equivalent of Dinner AND a Movie…

Well… since I still catching up with posting archival stuff this one is certainly an anachronism posting in May.  Hey, dress up if you like, it is the weekend.  Looks like rain outside, should be a fun commute.

DMK Post It: Have a swell weekend lads and lads-ies (?).  I will take a break from posting to go off into the  wilderness … or the local strip mall, the wildlife is interesting in both if not less aggressive out in the forest.

Some quirky little numbers

man-person-people-emotions.jpgPoems don’t always have to be seriously deadly.. ? do they ?  Sometimes a whim of whimsical floats my sails and trails off into my pen.. and then we (well, you in this particular instance) get some of these little devils…

DMK Notes: “sweet leaf” in the last poem is a not so subtle reference to Black Sabbath (cool song but also makes the line a double entendre).  So, Finally a beautiful day here in northern New Jersey (traffic paradise of the northern realms, I would be a Stark if you had to ask).

If I won the lottery would I write more… or less?  Or more or less if I win the lottery would I write?
