From time to time these hit me, not the first time, so of course my watch has ended, I won’t go all Aaron Rodgers on you here, I have a media review page for that (if you care to see my opinion about such things), but this blog is about my creative work and working to be a better person (not necessarily in that order or ever clear), this falls more in the creative work category because certainly a TV show is not reality but isn’t all art some reflection of reality? including TV… well, except those reality TV shows… damn I hate those, anyway… here is a little ditty…

for Winter has truly come
all along the smoldering ruins
past the walls of King’s Landing
covered now but not by snow
but by the souls of those once living,
a pride of lions proved no match
for the wrath of a phoenix writhing
forever to unmask
the absolution of power’s binding,
two once bright suns did crash
one if by brick, one if by steel
and within their lover’s arms reveal
love can exceed even that of death
and break the bonds of reasoned men

of course I have to end with this….  and all re-posts, likes, snowballs, spitballs and all sorts of diatribes.. are welcome, if you spent time reading this, thanks, I’ll never know it but perhaps screaming in the wind catches a few ears.

A couple of poems for a Monday night…

Heck, I admit it, I am on Game of Thrones overload… I binge watched season 7 all day Sunday (man so much happened).  I posted a review of the new season on my media review page (shameless plug here), I thought my brain would just shut off, but just when I think the well has dried up and I am the Sahara incarnate the muse lets me know she is not quite done with me yet (for good, for bad, for worse ? I don’t know)… so I literally wrote these tonight in a fever, well, OK not in a fever, they came to me, one when I was walking Samantha (the dog, I will post photos one of these days), to be fair, she walks herself, she is 10-ish, and the second as I was washing my face, seriously, I started the second poem in my bathroom scrubbing the old face, ah, the muse, she is her own thing and she owns me…

you are my constellation
bright upon that sky
even in the coming storm
I know your coordinates
your pulsar
a string of light
always close
ever far
from my touch
but always there
when I look,
for I hope when I pass
to transform to light
and join you
in that nightly retreat

(2)

tethered by a chord
into this world I did descend
lives and loves, my time is spent
so here I am at the end of such road
an appointment due with no one at all
for you have taken all my friends
I hope that with this single coin
might bear passage
to see them
once again

All looks, likes, comments and the such is greatly appreciated.  Criticism is welcome, how else can one grow ?  be well, spring is upon the land, at least mine, still waiting for the iron grip of this winter to relent… but there was a single dandelion on my lawn… a marker toward the march of summer’s dawn…

I could post about the new Game of Thrones trailer (OK, I am totally amped for that) but this is not that post, winter is not coming… in fact it is fading but surely going out with a roar here in the garden state, however among the storms we are trying to dodge, and snow that surely makes my morning commute an absolute slog – there are signs, this morning I heard it, the song of spring, the birds that had gone are back again, not in full force, perhaps just an expeditionary crew to lay the ground work for the re-population of the summerlands, I have come quite familiar with the sparse chirps of winter (cardinals mostly and finches well), this morning there was more singing in the choir (I stopped to pause) even with the temperature dropping, the sun seemed stronger, or perhaps my eyes have learned to harvest yield more of the weaker rays, either way, this morning was different, and so was last night, the day is starting to stave off the night, the endless battle swings  in our favor…

somehow the night sky
somehow retains the blue
as if midday or the afternoon
the clouds viewing by in celluloid panes
mirrored on the fresh snow upon the ground below
melted, slightly
until this night drops more
and breath rises
still stark limbs, still out-reached
still searching for a conclusion
weighed down in corners with tufts of white
instead of leaf
and yet the sky seems bright
a trick of my mind perhaps
and no moon yet in sight
somehow – the night sky, tonight

So, being the consummate dork I am a huge fan… not of the books (they are a bit of a mess in my opinion.. I am a Tolkien boy after all, he makes more sense) but the show.   So for the hell of it I wrote some GoT inspired stuff… because… why not.  I love watching the reaction to the show here, I don’t know why, but I find it fascinating.  I’ve entertained in my mind flying out there to watch the final episodes… whenever the hell those come out.. come to think of it the show is now matching the output crawl of the books. Life imitates art imitates art… or something?

“Jon Snow” 7.2.18

wolf of the north
born of ice
blood of fire
descendant of the first men
crossed upon the mantle of tri-fire Targaryen
can the balance tame
a dragon’s ire
Daenerys’ desires
can this bond
shield the world
bend all men
into one will
to repel
the ever coming march
of the dead.

upon the wall
and through
O’ Jon Snow
show us the light of the north
the heart that beats flame
and stand before
the gates of doom
to battle upon
where the night king looms;
we look to you
O’ Jon Snow

7.2.18

in the crypts of Winterfell
rests the ages
the sages of generations
wardens of these northern lands
keepers of the sevens’ grant

This kid was the first to do a GoT theme cover on violin (well, I think)…. 7 years ago, and it still rules your world… I learned how to play this on guitar… and it made me happy.
