a simple spring poem or two.

written in traffic this morning, this week has been, ahem, arduous in terms of that, just simple things I saw in front of me, it brought me hope in a sense, I hope to share that with you…

(1)

driving,
on the fore –
the only tree
alight with green
is not a pine
spring
has arrived

(2)

expectation
might I forgive
the architect
for placing
a pigeon
atop a highway light post
distinct profile
hitchcock
but not as impressive
as a falcon
or a hawk

notes… the second one is very ME specific, for some reason I am fixated on birds on lamp posts, I have noticed some birds of prey on them in recent years (and not previously), most birds of prey are super impressive animals really, they are much larger than common birds, at least in these parts, so the contrast is what I was going for here, pigeons are quite common, and not as regal as the top predator, sort of like comparing mullet to a great white, sure, at some level both have aesthetic beauty, but the whites are more impressive as they have barely any fear (besides killer whales, not to go all off tangent on you), anyway, pay attention to the world around, things are there to confound…

music ?!…

Soen – Rival

Started as a “side band” that wanted to experiment with “Tool” like music (treating Tool’s sound as a genre, interesting).  This is off the new album… and man it rules, well, at least to me.  Melodic and heavy… I would like to think I hit those notes as a person, probably not… but heck, why not dream while I’m still alive… let me know what you think, I can’t read minds you know (although I pretend)

not haiku…

forgive the reiteration, this disclaimer is for those unfamiliar (hello) with my particular iterations, I don’t like to write in form but I like the idea/feel of haiku as it were, so here are a couple of little observations (sort of) I wrote today, sometimes I just am in the mood to write this way, and so I do…

Paradise Lost- Ordinary Days

This band has gone from doom/death metal to metal to electronica (here) and more… I dig that…

tales in trails of movement frozen
upon this still locked land
tracks of rorschach
intersect and interpret the intent of ways
I have not seen them lately, this season
the jacks
the rabbits that usually inhabit
under bush and peaking tree
curiously absent,
but clearly laid out the path
and social gatherings
if I might read tracks
I might know where they are going
I imagine them bounding
stopping for thumping
should they draw into fear
I imagine their locked sudden eyes
constant scanning,
but as now the snow is melting into rain
the crackling of mixed precipitation
and the rabbits once more, like magic, disappear
hiding
in my plain sight
but at least I know they are here

notes…. written monday during some lovely weather here in the garden state, one of those storms with a weird mix of snow/sleet.. and fun… so, remember to find beauty wherever you can, take a moment, stop and look for it (it’s there, go ahead), over the past couple of years I have noticed less and less jack-rabbits in my yard/property (it’s not an estate but I do have a small patch of woods behind the house), I also started seeing foxes in the neighborhood (which I have never seen here), I am not in a city but Edison is not exactly a wildlife preserve (for suburbia we do OK nature wise though), I have wondered if the rabbit population was being decimated by the foxes (who are super skittish by the way), I think the foxes are feasting more on domestic cats looking at the tracks on these snowy days (no cat tracks but I have seen cats around other times of year), just a side note, the first time you spot a fox it is a strange affair, at first glance you think “cat” but your mind says otherwise, on second guess you think “dog” but the size and gate is not quite right, and then you spy the tail, and the gig is up, or they look at you briefly before sneaking off and you catch those perfect bermuda ears…

field” 12.5.2018

oh, she had her days

but those are of far away, now

echoes trailing back revel in children’s laughter

of games, and lemonade, and summer

here she lies, overgrown

an outline of once the home

tucked away in the corner of a misplaced park

more forest than yard

tales are told upon the rust

the creeping vines covers them up

the base lines sleep underneath

now shallow paths of grass barely deep

as trees bear closer

as the times forget

this vessel of once happiness

resplendent in no regrets

somewhere, the spark

the magic that once lit the sky

endless childhood

the innocent times

all still reflected here

in this, abandoned field.

I took the photos what feels like ages ago (here), the words came to me yesterday, well, 2 days ago now that feels like yesterday in my real time. this park is so odd, it is right on a major road with tons of traffic everyday, feet away, a little enclave hidden in plain sight, so strange.

my line of work is so nuts this time of year (12 hour days every day 6 days), i had an install tonight in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the area has gotten so much nicer just in my short time with my company (15 years), you would think driving home (at this late hour) would be a breeze but of course there was construction in Staten Island and also on the GSP (sigh…), I can’t win sometimes.

About the wind…

About the wind…

9.13.2018

the wind, in your many fabrics, in your many forms;

a storm wind,

bold proclamations before the gathering

a pitch of storms

the backdrop of flowing gray silks

you come roaring about

throwing down bolts of rain

but such fury, rarely lasts

certainly less than 40 days

and passed –

puddles of remembrance

evaporate from existence

into your fellows;

the cooling tempt of night summer breeze

circling and caressing beads of sweat

wrapped under ears, across the neck

like a gentle kiss from phantom lips

a comfort whispered

in the season of the sun

embarked upon a soothing voyage to calm;

the cold raspy one

down to the bone

the pitchfork of winter stone on stone

pierces through, the harbinger

to transform, to ice

thoughts of warmth, all are lies

you strip the breath away in ghost

stinging, burning skin

forced indoors

to escape your intent

(and await your relent)

to your fonder brothers I call

that I know are coming,

flowing onward.

notes… been busy with the whole family thing, so… talk among yourselves…

um, leftovers, I should really post all things at once but sometimes things get lost, I have my journals to be sure, but man my handwriting is pure… garbage  🙂  so this is one I forgot to post from my visit to the place in new jersey I love almost… the most, Cape May

bending as she sways to swing

how long have you waited

for just the right breeze

to release your young

and ease into deathly reprieve

to see where I actually wrote this (literally on a beach in a storm) check out this vid, I was in a tidal area (marsh) where the ocean meets um… the marsh… very unique ecosystem, unfortunately I had to clean up about 17 beer cans/bottles thrown into the brush… that pisses me off, I am not some rabid environmentalist (I am just a classic nature lover), and hell, if I was a kid living near there I would probably party on the beach too, but man alive, how hard is it to clean up after your damn self…
