Some quirky little numbers

Some quirky little numbers

man-person-people-emotions.jpgPoems don’t always have to be seriously deadly.. ? do they ?  Sometimes a whim of whimsical floats my sails and trails off into my pen.. and then we (well, you in this particular instance) get some of these little devils…

leaves! leaves ! leaves !

a flush of color

a thrush flits under

beautiful shades of the fallen

a cricket in the toilet

flush! flush! flush!

I must decide

live or die

hush, hush, hush

oh sweet leaf that falls

relief from the pressures of summer

the warmth of the coming winter

prepare to hunker

DMK Notes: “sweet leaf” in the last poem is a not so subtle reference to Black Sabbath (cool song but also makes the line a double entendre).  So, Finally a beautiful day here in northern New Jersey (traffic paradise of the northern realms, I would be a Stark if you had to ask).

If I won the lottery would I write more… or less?  Or more or less if I win the lottery would I write?

Musical Interlude of the Moment: Tycho – Human Condition

theme-patterns-74358.jpegI suppose there might just be such a thing. I think schools teach Haiku in that manner as if Basho is some amalgamation of simple patterns.  Not that I am writing Haiku here… just spouting off before posting some of my own work.

cracked dry vines

on a zebra patched fence

hold within the promise of spring

still firmly coated in

the dead soils of season’s past,

ready to feel the snap

of the union of fate and time

to cultivate one more climb from dust.

my sense and logic

go about upon the look

of your eyes

(so I remember)

and the wash of your smile

all these long ages – miles

my mouth has worn thin

the thought of you makes them tremble

your dream is intoxicating

like swirls of smoke dancing ’round

spiraling about me

twirling

beyond sense,

past sensibility.

I grasp for the core

of sanity

but my hand is bare

so I chance to envision

to cultivate a memory

a full bloomed petal’s velvet touch

upon my lips

the faint hope

wisp of bliss-

your lips.

DMK Note: “zebra fences” is a specific reference to a type of fence common (or at one time) common here in the US Northeast (here is a good example).  They have a very distinct look and sound… and generally rust out making them oh so fun to tangle with when you are a kid (yay tetanus!).

Musical Interlude of the moment…. Katatonia “The Racing Heart” (live, acoustic)

Has spring…finally arrived?

Has spring…finally arrived?

japanese-cherry-trees-flowers-spring-japanese-flowering-cherry-54630.jpegWinter certainly has been a worthy adversary in these parts… finally a taste of spring has whet the imagination to thaw here in New Jersey.  Here is a spring work from last year when spring arrived a bit earlier.

children running

sunshine gracing

march, the third month

degrees climbing

birds minding

nests, for eggs

lawn greening

ramps peeking

daffodils, early friends

robins prancing

territorial dancing

as dusk lingers, clocks turn

DMK Note: the last line refers to daylight savings time…because we can not handle the normal cycle of sunset/sunrise here in the US … apparently.  Just one of those weird quirks of life that is  taken for granted when it is part of your routine.  Most of the imagery above is from my yard.  I try to pay more attention these days as it seems ‘wonder’ is just as far as your eye if you just care to look.
