“generations”

so, the wave has begun
the first domino has fallen
a generation to come –
to an end.
I have seen the wave coming
for some time
off on the horizon
off in that inevitable ocean
but so soon crashing upon the shore
this is the way of things
for we are mere pillars
of rock hewn of sand
drawn down and back into the surf
from which we once rose
in and out the flow
of this life,
we pretend
to have some modicum of control
ever looking at that horizon
and the coming waves
as they come for me
surely, some day

notes:  for a while now I know a certain portion of my family is at the cliff, at the precipice of that final step, it is a generational thing, I have been admittedly lucky that death has not visited my doorstep too often, my grandfathers both died before I was two, my grandmothers died at advanced ages not suddenly, that is pretty much it, but now… it is only a matter of time where I fear (know) they will be dropping like flies, I can not imagine what it is like for my parents who have lost friend after friend over the past couple of years, death is not a fickle beast, you can do all you want but she still comes for you whenever she wants, my folks are not in great shape, or of particularly long DNA stock but they are around to witness the deaths of all their friends, it is a strange thing, one we all do not want to imagine or even live in, but it is always there, the horizon seems far but is always approaching.  So this poem is about that, my uncle who is gone now, some months, he was an intellectual in such a way that he ordered no funeral or even memorial, I understand that from a logical/scientific perspective, but maybe those things are more for the living than the dead… a moment in time to bring together a family to remember they are indeed family, maybe even if just for a moment, and perhaps bonds can be reborn, or remade, or started anew as the younger ones in the family are transitioning into the elders and having their own children, the conveyor belt runs better with connectivity, and that requires time set aside to be together… just a thought or thoughts…

I know, not my usual Saturday lighter musings, and the weekends are where posts go to die, I don’t care, I post what is on my mind, maybe it is because I had to wake up @ 5:30am today to go to work, Sam (the dog) gave me that look like “really dude? you are never up this early”, and of course she’s right, starbucks lasted until about 6pm then I passed out, back up again and writing this, so maybe my mind isn’t quite the same as usual, that’s ok, sometimes you gotta’ shake the tree and see what happens.

Music????  sure… not that you asked but damn I am a persistent mofo pushing what I love…

Simple and sweet, the vocals are just so friggin good, if you like 3 part harmonies and the Beatles.. well, this should be up your alley (except Doug has a better voice than any of the Beatles individually, I know blasphemy…).  My cousin Renee worked in the city @ the time and sent me the CD with this track on it along with a signed poster, that had to be 1994, it made my year (thanks cuz!), and later I got to meet them many many times over the years, great peeps.

“my sin is stone
bearing upon my bones
I wish this was a story I read
and not the one I wrote”

notes… sometimes I dwell, I wish I was a dumb moron, a dump truck who could just tilt back and leave a pile of dirt behind, but I am just not wired that way, I wish I was an electrician so I might fix myself… but what else would I screw up in the process?

music?  even on this topic… I am going light and fun here…

I decided to hop on the GSP this morning instead of the Turnpike because my route to said roadways takes me directly over them so I can actually see the levels of hell I might be descending into (Edison is quite advantageous a place to live, in that regard), by rule I almost always avoid the GSP weekdays, well, rules have exceptions but sometimes they are also rooted in pretty darn good experience, but (oh the but…), I threw that logic out the window seeing as the Turnpike looked more like the Meadowlands (er… Met Life stadium) the day of a Giants game (yes, I am a fan…), anyhoo, so I wound up in some mind numbing traffic (I know, I know, I complain about traffic all the time), so instead of getting my road rage on (for no apparent reason or recourse honestly) I popped on some Eric Johnson (Tones specifically) to soothe my soul (and make me forget my current annoying predicament), I find Eric’s playing full of the joy of life, so, for whatever reason, the muse came down from whatever cloud and handed me these, some phrases and thoughts, feel free to share as long as you remember where you got them…

“live life in amazement
  love life in amazement”

(edit 3/7 – love life through engagement), pick whichever version you prefer…

“for some, winter never ends
for them, I can only pray”

“there is no currency lost in dreaming”

“I find myself looking for metaphors in rusty guard rails
maybe I am trying to hard”

notes.. don’t they look so much more impressive in quotes… anyway here is some more Eric Johnson, he is coming to town at the end of the month as part of the Experience Hendrix tour which also features perhaps the most underrated rock vocalist ever, Doug Pinnick, anyway…

Eric Johnson – Song for George (acoustic)

and as always, thanks for the eyeballs…

truth, an essay about the nature of it

truth, an essay about the nature of it

5003_pd1683488_1

truth is like a box of chocolates, ummm… nah, that one sounds a bit too familiar for some reason so I will forgo it, thinking about it, truth is more like a perfectly formed square clear plexiglass box, a novel little thing that you can hold in your hands (just big enough to trigger a two hand response but you could hold it in one hand if you endeavored to do so), you can not inherently change it (no matter what you do), however, you can choose to do many things to suit it to you…  to hide it behind your back, or take pictures of it for disbursement, make copies and call it the “real thing“, the truth remains however, you may even hold it at a certain angle so only part is visible, or at a different vector to show off one aspect of this cute little plastic box, but the truth – has not changed, you may lash  it to a pole and smash someone in the head with it, maybe you hide it somewhere knowing someone will find it later, perhaps it is up on a ledge just out of reach, or just around the next corner, maybe you do not even know what it looks like, on a map X marks the spot, or left alone in the yard, half grown over with ivy, bury it for one thousand years in sand, paste glue popsicle sticks all over, hand print paint turkeys on the side…

but it remains, a simple box, square sides of even dimension, clear plexiglass from all sides when revealed, the truth.

“truth is what holds our feet to the very ground (whether we like it or not).” – me

“truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light” – GWash (some guy who founded America)

“Truth will always be truth, regardless of lack of understanding, disbelief or ignorance.” W. Clemrock

“Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things.” I (the original apple) Newton

So.. what do you think about the truth … ?

about faith…

about faith…

maelstrom
the divine path
might I lead,
divine wrath
I might reap,
the divine spark
to light me through
this fierce storm in the wake
in the pursuit of the only grace
I surely fail
as humans break
as does my will
at times will fail
for all that drains my strength
to find the well that springs again
my faith

notes (this piece was written 1/21, comments today)… faith is not a particularly religious thing for me, we all believe in something, even if that is ‘nothing’ in the case of atheists, I am perfectly fine with both sides, why?  I came to a calm in my mind some years ago, I know I do not have all the answers, am I more confident than some in my beliefs ? sure (I am trying to lose that). but I acknowledge the effect of ego and my experience on that belief.  My belief does not bring me total comfort per-se as I am in limbo but yet there is some respite there in capitulation to the fact that I do not have the answers, how arrogant it would be for me to look down on those who have found theirs, god could be a goat named bob in wisconsin for all I know, and for all I know I will only be here a blink, so, I should not waste my time judging those that have found peace, so bless you all in whatever form that takes, me, it is just the universe, being alive, being in nature, but I am glad the human brain has the capacity to make movies for all movie goers (I just wish the floor wasn’t so sticky).

music> ? Yeah, I am all about that! here is some acoustic goodness, how this song never became big is beyond me… (of course Summerland (this is a fan cover, with passion) is my favorite song of all time)

Legal Kill – King’s X

this is the secondary singer of the band, they all can sing lead, Ty Tabor has a very beatles tone (he is a huge fan of them)
